Environmental Health Department

The Environmental Health Department at the Benue State College of Health Technology, Agasha, is committed to training highly skilled and competent Environmental Health Officers. We believe that a healthy environment is fundamental to human well-being and strive to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to address a wide range of environmental health issues. Our program emphasizes both theoretical and practical learning, preparing our graduates to effectively contribute to public health initiatives and improve the quality of life for all.

Overview

The Environmental Health Department recognizes the crucial role of a healthy environment in individual and community well-being. It emphasizes disease prevention and control through environmental health interventions, aiming to improve the overall health and socio-economic development of the nation. A significant portion of illnesses are preventable through proper environmental health practices. The department aims to train competent Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) who can effectively address environmental health challenges and contribute to a healthier society.

Objectives

1. To contribute to the improvement of public health and well-being, the protection of the environment, the sustainable development of communities, and the advancement of the environmental health profession.2. To equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to: • Identify, assess, and control environmental factors that affect human health.<br> • Plan, implement, and evaluate environmental health programs.<br> • Conduct environmental health surveys and investigations.<br> • Educate the public about environmental health issues.<br> • Advise and assist communities in improving their environmental health conditions.<br> • Enforce environmental health regulations and laws.<br> • Manage environmental health programs and projects.<br> • Conduct research and develop innovative solutions to environmental health problems.<br> • Communicate effectively with various stakeholders on environmental health issues.<br> • Develop leadership and managerial skills in the field of environmental health.

Programmes

National Diploma in Community Health (NDCH)

A four-semester full-time programme with SIWES and one year compulsory IT/Clinical Posting

Admission Requirements

NDCH: Five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics in WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB in not more than two sittings.
